Which rim. West Rim flights are the ones that can descend below the rim and land near the Colorado River. South Rim flights fly over the widest, deepest, most classically photographed part of the canyon but do not land inside it.

Landing or air-only. A canyon-floor landing — usually West Rim, sometimes with champagne or a short boat ride — is a genuinely different experience from an overflight, and it roughly doubles the time commitment.

Once those three are set, everything else is refinement: aircraft type, window seating policy, and whether the trip includes ground time at the rim.

West Rim flights are the standard Las Vegas product because the West Rim is close. Flights cross the Hoover Dam area and Lake Mead, then reach the canyon's western end, where the walls are narrower and the drop is sheer.

South Rim flights are shorter transits from Tusayan, immediately adjacent to Grand Canyon National Park, and cover the Dragon Corridor — the section most people picture when they imagine the Grand Canyon.

Federal air tour rules restrict where and how low aircraft may fly over the national park, which is why South Rim flights do not land in the canyon and follow defined corridors. That is a conservation measure, not an operator limitation.
